Start packing away those heavy sweaters, mittens and toques, because the countdown to summer is on. Mother Nature was great to us this spring, so I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us for the summer.
What I look forward to the most in the summer is enjoying the extra hours outdoors and having barbecues with friends and family. There’s just something great about everyone gathering around the BBQ in their shorts and tees, eating off paper plates with plastic utensils, and playing outdoor games until the sun goes down. This means finishing my work on time and getting out of the office at a decent hour.
My energy starts to fade around mid-afternoon, and instead of drinking hot coffee, I can go for something more refreshing, like the Starbucks Refreshers™ Raspberry Pomegranate (Left) to get me through the last few hours of managing projects, attending meetings, or answering emails. The real fruit juices give it some good flavour, and it doesn’t leave a weird taste in my mouth like some other energy drinks do. With some great patios in Vancouver, it helps to get out of the office a little earlier so I can grab a coveted spot and enjoy cocktails in the sun with friends. In the meantime, I can practice making some cocktails at home. In this instance (Right), I used vodka, Starbucks Refreshers™ Strawberry Lemonade, a splash of soda water, added some frozen strawberries and sprinkled some freshly chopped basil on top. If you prefer to keep your caffeine separate from your alcohol, feel free to add more soda water, or even some apple or white grape juice if you like it more sweet.
We also look forward to getting back into shape in order to feel good and, well, fit into last year’s summer clothes. Since our return from our recent vacation in Japan and Korea, we haven’t been as diligent in getting back to our regular workout routine. I’m starting to take walks during my workday lunch hour, and I’m also doing some weight training at home. Eventually I’ll be running again, or feel energized enough to try something new.
Meanwhile, Dennis is starting to play ice hockey again. Last weekend, he brought the Starbucks Refreshers™ Blueberry Acai with him, to give him some added nutrients and energy on the ice.
No matter what season it is, we all deserve some good energy, and everybody has their own way about it. As great as summer barbecues are, Vancouver isn’t the sunniest of cities, so they don’t happen as often as I’d like. I always have a great time when traveling, but that can get really expensive very quickly. Luckily, I can find pleasure in catching a great sunset, talking a stroll in my neighbourhood with my husband, flipping through old photo albums, or even giving myself a manicure.
