Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar – Grand Opening – Sutton Place Hotel @blvdyvr

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar hosted its grand opening event last night. Having only opened its doors a couple weeks earlier, and being one of the most highly anticipated restaurant openings in Vancouver this summer, we were quite eager to check it out. Located inside the luxurious Sutton Place Hotel in the heart of downtown Vancouver, this 290-seat restaurant replaces Fleuri, which many remember for its chocolate buffet. Boulevard’s concept is upscale dining in a classic chic setting with a touch of modern flair.

Executive chef Alex Chen, who placed 9th in the 2013 Bocuse d’Or culinary competition in France, leads a talented kitchen staff and is the culinary mastermind of this establishment. We sampled a lot of food, and were treated to some freshly shucked BC oysters, and large poached prawns. Fans of Joe Fortes might be interested in knowing that champion shucker Oyster Bob is now shucking for Boulevard.

Here are a few of the mouth-watering canapés that we enjoyed, which included smoked salmon blini (potato based) (left), beef short rib grilled cheese sandwiches (right), and deep-fried smoked cod (below).

Boulevard cocktails
The featured cocktails of the evening: Left: Their signature cocktail, the Boulevardier – Port finished Canadian Whisky, amaro, black walnut bitters, stirred and served over ice, with flamed orange; Right: Professor Suzuki – Thyme infused vodka, sea buckthorn, cranberry liqueur, natural cranberry juice, BC honey, lime, shaken and served straight up.

This was a dangerous table to be near for those with a sweet tooth. Several tables loaded with an array of desserts awaited us. I especially enjoyed the Szechuan spiced chocolates.
Boulevard Sutton Place
If you’re looking for an alternative to YEW @ Four SeasonsCoast, or Joe Fortes, then Boulevard might just be the place for you. We’ll definitely be back again for an actual dining experience, but it’s great to see this new addition to the neighbourhood. And it doesn’t hurt that they have such a strong opening team running the joint either. Boulevard is open every day for breakfast, lunch, dinner, late-night service, and weekend brunch. With such beautiful décor and its sophisticated glamour, it’s a great spot for girls night outs or even après-work drinks. For more information and to check out their menu, be sure to visit their website.

Finally, kudos to Boulevard for donating $1 to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation for every tweet with the #BLVDlaunch hashtag.
