With Christmas fast approaching, we decided to be smarter this year by picking up some gifts this past weekend. We headed to Metropolis at Metrotown to do some holiday shopping for our loved ones, and for ourselves. When I was younger, I was somewhat of a mallrat. All right, I hung out at Metrotown every weekend, and knew where every single store in the mall was located. So much of this mall has changed over the years though, and when I step foot inside, it’s refreshing to see an updated expanded layout with new and popular retailers and a larger food court. The mall has everything you would possibly need to carry out a shopping mission, from department stores to boutiques, specialty stores, bakeries, supermarkets, and restaurants. You really can spend a full day here!
We had a Metropolis gift card to spend, and we couldn’t wait to start shopping. As you can see, neither could our daughter. Our first stop was at Rocky Mountain Soap Co, one of my favourite stores. I fell in love with their products ever since I was given a lavender scented diaper cream as a baby shower gift. Their body care products are toxin-free, and contain natural ingredients. During my pregnancy, I was focused on using the best natural products, and that trend continued after Jasmine was born. We ventured into their baby care section, and our toddler was immediately drawn to their line of animal bath mitts. They were so cute that we just had to pick one up for her favourite activity of the day.
We then stopped by Home Sense to see what bargains we could find. Depending on my mood, I could spend hours rummaging through a discount store. However it can be tough with a toddler in tow. Luckily, we found some practical items for our kitchen pretty quickly. We also found a cream and sugar set, which is a perfect gift for that tea lover in your life. They also have great home decor pieces, but we decided to save that for another trip.
Our next stop was the Disney Store, to find a Princess Jasmine doll for our daughter. We had both forgotten that the store had relocated to the other side of the mall. We headed over to their Animator’s Collection and found just a few Princess Jasmine dolls left. When we told our daughter that it was a Jasmine doll, her eyes instantly lit up and she wanted to hold it right away. I can see many, many years of her in Disney princess costumes and wanting to visit Disneyland one day. This is a great place to stop by if you’re shopping for a child, or for anybody who is still a kid at heart.
As we headed out, we felt our hunger pangs kick in. We searched for a place to eat at the food court, but then spotted Sekai Udon, a Japanese udon restaurant located on the ground floor of the mall. As we waited for a table, we took Jasmine next door to look at the cats through the windows of Pet Habitat. She had such a fun time waving to the kittens and making a point to tell everybody around her all about it. We could have stayed here for much longer, but our table was ready and we sat down for dinner.
Up until this point, we had used our gift card for all our purchases. We really liked that the balance of the card is stated at the bottom of every receipt, unlike other gift cards or pre-paid credit cards where you can only find your balance by phone or online. We were pleasantly surprised that the restaurant accepted the Metropolis gift card, which made things even easier.
An afternoon of #Christmas shopping at @metropolisatmet capped off with dinner at @sekaiudonbar. Our girl really enjoyed the udon there. Here’s their aburi sampler asparagus roll. Stay tuned next week for a blog post and Metropolis $100 gift card giveaway on @pangcouver.
We finished our shopping trip with a few more purchases before heading home. Here’s a photo of just some of our purchases from that day:
Some people have different thoughts about receiving gift cards as a gift, but we personally love receiving them. It definitely gives us the freedom to buy something that we actually want, or even use it to find a perfect gift for our baby girl. So if you have somebody in your life who is like me, I’m sure they would appreciate a gift card from Metropolis at Metrotown. You know, the holidays are just around the corner!
To celebrate the holidays, we’re giving away a $100 Metropolis gift card to a lucky reader. You can use it for that purchase you’ve been waiting to make, or gift it to a loved one who might be more difficult to shop for. Head over to Pangcouver’s Instagram to enter to win!
